Our school will offer A Level Computer Science for the first time from September 2026 to the expanded Y12 cohort. The plan is for students to choose in February of Y12 whether to take Physics or Computer Science on to A Level. Those Computer Scientists who are not continuing to sit the A Level will do an independent coding qualification in the summer of year 12.
A key aspect of the job will be to support the Lead Teacher of Computer Science with teaching the new curriculum. Teaching Computer Science at King’s College London Mathematics School is unique because the students are amazing and because every student also takes Mathematics and Further Mathematics A-levels and Physics to at least AS Level standard, meaning that topics can be tackled using considerably more mathematics than is usually assumed.
The school is also interested in candidates who are equipped to teach mathematics or physics to students at KCLMS, or whose knowledge of computer science and related areas might enable them to lead the challenge and extension programmes. Computer Science has been a thriving part of the school. AS results in August 2025 featured an impressive 77% A grades, there are many students who wish to apply to study it at top universities, and a considerable proportion of students choose to enter Computer Science Challenges and Olympiads.
The Computer Science department will consist of this role and the Lead Teacher (Computer Science). The successful candidate will have strong academic credentials. They may already have a proven record of outstanding teaching, or they may be new to the profession, in which case they would be supported by the school’s thorough mentoring programme. A vital qualification will be that they share the vision of the school to help young people with a particular aptitude for mathematics find stretch and excitement in a curriculum that fosters intellectual growth and curiosity.
The post will commence from 1 September 2026.
