Physics Technician
The school is seeking to appoint a Physics Technician to work closely with the physics department to manage and maintain the department’s resources and to set-up or prepare equipment for practicals and demonstrations for KCLMS students and for the outreach lessons run by the school.
- Closing date: 23 Jan 2026
- Salary: £28,821 - £33,332, pro rata.
- Hours: Part time
The physics department consists of two labs and five teachers. All students at the school take Physics A Level and practical demonstrations and experiments are considered by the department to be essential to to the development of student understanding.
The labs are modern and serviced by a reasonably-sized prep room with direct access to the labs and other storage areas. A new lab is being built as part of an expansion project which will be across a corridor from the existing labs. A potential donation to the school will allow for refurbishment of the existing labs and improvements to the equipment available.
The ideal appointee will be able to work independently and flexibly in fulfilling the practical requisitions of teaching staff. They will enjoy the challenge of supporting A Level practical work and inspirational Physics outreach lessons and will bring their own ideas into the preparation of materials.
The practical requirements during the first two school terms are demanding. During summer term, there are fewer practical lessons. However, the appointee will be expected to support the school in other ways, depending on experience, such as through invigilation, intervention work with students, preparation of materials for the term-time outreach summer schools or other administrative activities.
Physics lessons are spread across the week, so the ideal candidate would be able to spread their hours over 5 days/week in term-time, with more flexibility possible in school holidays. Days and hours are negotiable on appointment.
The post will commence from 23 March 2025.
