Challenge 66: It's a Record!

Can you work out the total distance the needle moves while I am listening to the record from start to finish?

I've just bought a new 12” vinyl record.

The ‘information’ that my record player translates into sound is held in a groove that spirals out from near the centre of the record to the edge. A needle is placed in the groove and as the record spins it reads the information and plays the music.

This particular record has a diameter of 12 inches, and the groove starts 2 inches from the centre.

If the needle ‘arm’ is 8 inches long, and is attached to a point 3 inches outside the edge of the record, what is the total distance the needle moves while I am listening to the record from start to finish?
