Challenge 155: Fair Shares?
Can you hand out these pieces of fruit to the children using the rules given?
Eight fruits are to be shared between four children. Each child must receive a whole number of fruits and there should be none left over, or cut into pieces, but they do not all have to get the same number of fruits (however unfair this might be!)
How many ways can this be done if all the fruits are apples?
What if there is one orange and seven apples? Or two oranges and six apples?
Can you make or prove any generalisations?
