KCLMS welcomes new headteacher

King’s Maths School has been delighted to welcome Timothy Bateup as its new Head Teacher since September. Excited to take KCLMS on the next steps of its journey, Mr Bateup is building on the outstanding work of his predecessor, Dan Abramson OBE, who served as Head Teacher for a decade.

Mr Bateup was previously Head of Mathematics at City of London School for Girls, which he joined in 2015. He attained a 1st Class BSc in Mathematics and a PGCE in Secondary Mathematics at the University of Warwick.

Mr Bateup said: “I’d firstly like to thank Mr Abramson for all his hard work at KCLMS. It’s a privilege to be here. I’m looking forward to enhancing our school's abundant strengths and helping shape its future. This is an immensely successful institution with a thriving network of welcoming students, parents and carers, staff, alumni and governors."

Bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and experience, Mr Bateup has been in teacher leadership for over a decade. Prior to joining City of London School for Girls, he taught at Highgate School in North London. He led its mathematics outreach programme, working with primary and secondary state schools across multiple boroughs to enrich students’ mathematical experiences.

Passionate about widening participation in maths, he launched new partnership projects with schools in East and Central London whilst at City of London School for Girls. The programmes included peer mentoring, leadership training and support for teachers and activities to improve the uptake of A level Further Maths in those schools.

David Benello, Chair of the Governing Body, said: “We have been thrilled to have Mr Bateup on board. He has an excellent academic record and is respected both as a great teacher and a trusted leader.”
